GENERAL INFORMATION

The faculty and staff of The Academy of Dance would like to welcome you to the current dance season. Here are a few things, which we feel you should know about our school.

The $15.00 Registration Fee and the first monthly tuition payment is due by the student’s first lesson. Throughout the year, payment in full should be issued on the first lesson of each month.Tuition payments are to be made on a MONTHLY, rather than weekly basis. Tuition payments remain the same each month, and are based on a 10 month school year schedule from September through June, with each month containing 3 to 5 lessons, balancing out to approximately 37 weeks. Payments may be mailed directly to the studio, or dropped in the payment box near the office. Please be sure to clearly label your payment with the student’s name, class time, and what fee you are paying, so that credit can be properly applied to your account. A $25.00 fee will be applied to any check returned to the studio as unpaid by the bank. THERE WILL BE NO TRANSFERS, CREDITS OR CASH REFUNDS. Please check with your instructor for an appropriate make-up time, in the event of an absence. The Academy of Dance reserves the right to dismiss a student for late or non-payment.

Due to our sometimes stormy New England winters, there are occasions on which we decide to close for safety reasons. In most cases of cancellation, announcements will be made online on our website www.academyofdance-el.com. If for some reason a public announcement is not made, but the weather remains questionable, we advise you to call the studio before your class time. If a class is missed due to a snow day, please check with your instructor for an appropriate make-up time. Please remember that even if class is held, use your own discretion in deciding whether or not to attend. ONCE AGAIN, THERE WILL NO TRANSFERS, CREDITS OR CASH REFUNDS.

The Academy of Dance reserves the right to assign a substitute teacher when necessary.

The school is able to accept a limited number of students in each class, and reserves the right to close a class, which has reached capacity, or to cancel a class for insufficient registration.

At the end of the season, all students will receive an award, to congratulate them on their wonderful achievement! Also, special awards will be handed out at our spring performance, for students who have accomplished a goal of continuing their dance training for 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 15 years! Please watch for the posting of this list, close to show time, if it is your year to receive an award.

It is suggested that valuables not be left in the dressing rooms. Student’s full name should be written on all dance attire. The Academy of Dance is not liable for lost or stolen items. Any items left around the studio will be placed in the lost and found bins in the dressing room. Please check these periodically for your belongings.

All students are required to be on time, and every effort is made to start classes on schedule. If the preceding class occupies the studio, all students are to wait quietly in the hall, maintaining respect for the class in session. Please do not drop your children off too much before their class time. Things can get rather hectic, and the children cannot always be supervised. Also, no siblings should be left unsupervised at the studio. No smoking is allowed in the building, and food and drinks are not to be brought into the studios.

The dress code policy is generally as follows. Shoe styles vary according to age groups. Please check with your instructor as to which specific color and style your class will wear. Students should also have their hair up and away from their faces.

Information for our Spring Production will be posted throughout the season. Participation is not mandatory; however, we feel that performance is an essential part of good dance training, and the students look forward to it very much. If you will not be participating you will need to inform us of this decision early in the season, as the planning of costuming and routines begins around November. For those who decide to participate, here are some of the requirements:

  1. A costume must be purchased for each routine that a student participates in. Total cost cannot be determined until after the costumes have been ordered. A non-refundable deposit of $35.00 on each costume will be due in October or November when the costumes are ordered, and the balance is payable some time in March when the costumes are delivered, or anytime before. Once your costume has been ordered, you are responsible for paying the balance.

  2. The proper tights to accompany each costume will be ordered for each student. The cost of the tights will be included in your costume balance.

  3. The proper shoes to accompany each costume must also be worn. Every effort is made to be sure that the shoe color and style that is purchased for use in class, is the one that will be worn on stage. Again, the exact cost cannot be determined until the style, size, etc. is chosen by the instructor.

  4. Anyone who occupies a seat in the auditorium during either performance, Academy of Dance students included, must purchase a ticket.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please do not hesitate to speak with us. We would like to do everything possible to make this a happy and fun-filled dance season for everyone.
